Mila's Books
Mila’s Books is the world’s only all-Pasifika publishing team, proudly celebrating the vibrant stories, languages, and traditions of the Pacific Islands. Founded by award-winning author Dahlia Malaeulu, Mila’s Books is an award-winning publisher dedicated to creating stories that empower tamaiti (children) to feel seen, heard, and valued as Pasifika.
Recognized globally, Mila’s Books has been shortlisted for the Bologna Prize for the Best Children’s Publishers of the Year (BOP) 2025, highlighting its impact in championing Pasifika storytelling on the world stage.
Our books span picture books, middle-grade and young adult novels, and wellbeing resources, each one weaving together themes of identity, family, and belonging. At Mila’s Books, storytelling is a powerful tool for healing, inspiring, and preserving the rich heritage of Pasifika peoples. Our stories invite all readers to discover the magic of the Pacific while nurturing pride and confidence in tamaiti through culturally authentic representation.
We also lead literacy and creative writing initiatives, including mentoring emerging Pasifika writers to carry forward the torch of Pacific storytelling. Mila’s Books is part of a movement that honours the diverse communities of New Zealand, Aotearoa, through stories that reflect and reaffirm Pasifika identities, while allowing tamaiti to see themselves and their cultures reflected on the page.
