Losi was a mischievous and loyal friend to sea creatures and all humans who is remembered as the Samoan hero that brought taro, the food of the Gods’, to Earth.

This pick-a-path story introduces readers to a popular Sāmoan myth or legend, offering an interactive experience that blends cultural story-telling with important lessons on Pasifika traditions. It delves into the roles of key Sāmoan gods—such as Tagaloa, Faʻatiu, and Mafuiʻe—and explores significant Polynesian concepts like the vā (the sacred space between people, where relationships and connections thrive). The story also touches on elements of daily Sāmoan life, such as the preparation of an umu (traditional oven), while guiding readers through moral lessons about environmental stewardship, including the effects of overfishing and the importance of protecting marine ecosystems. With playful illustrations that are engaging, Losi the Giant Fisherman is designed for middle and senior primary students, families, and educators. It fosters cultural understanding, encourages critical thinking, and provides a safe, engaging space to explore Polynesian myths and values.
