These awards celebrate the best from New Zealand’s children’s authors and illustrators. Each year awards for best Picture Book, Junior Fiction, Young Adult Fiction, Non-Fiction, Illustration and te reo Māori are presented. Additionally, the judges will award a Best First Book prize to a previously unpublished author or illustrator. The overall prize for New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults is the prestigious Margaret Mahy Book of the Year award.
