I Can be Like Māui is a vibrant picture book that celebrates the uniqueness and individuality of every child by connecting them to the legendary Māui, a revered cultural ancestor in Māori tradition. The story draws parallels between the positive attributes of Māui—such as curiosity, resilience, and a love of fun—and the natural qualities found in children.
This book is designed to inspire feelings of self-worth and a strong sense of identity, encouraging young readers to embrace who they are. By affirming their family background, culture, and language, I Can be Like Māui supports children in building confidence, taking risks, and feeling proud of their heritage.
Through engaging storytelling and relatable examples, this book highlights the importance of these traits in everyday life, helping children recognize the strength and value within themselves. Perfect for nurturing a child’s sense of identity and belonging, I Can be Like Māui is an empowering resource for families, educators, and anyone looking to inspire the next generation of confident, proud learners.
