Alphabaguette: A cross-stitched alphabet of all things French

Book Author & Illustrator Fiona Sinclair and Sally-Anne Hayes
Rights Available World excl. NZ

Alphabaguette combines one sister’s love of illustration and typography with the other sister’s love of France to create a unique book that aims to inspire the reader to join them on a cross stitched journey of all things French. Combining undeniably French images with typography, Alphabaguette aims to inspire the reader to learn more about the food, architecture, places and objects of France ― all while cross-stitching a French-styled alphabet. These gorgeous little hooped designs explore the language of places and objects that are part of French life. The stitched artworks are each supported by a chart, a materials list and thread palette to invite the reader to take part in the journey.

About the Authors

Fiona Sinclair has a background as an art and design teacher and now works as an Education Officer for a design teachers organisation. She also works as a freelance illustrator designing type inspired tea-towels and homewares. Fiona has had two books published ― Fly Through Your ABC : An Alphabet of Australian Birds and Criss Crossing Paris: Journey to the Heart of Paris in 20 Cross Stitch Designs.

Sally-Anne Hayes is a regular traveller to France. Originally inspired by learning French, she returns as often as she can, finding that the combination of travel and language deepens her love of both. Having first ventured into the world of cross-stitch in school, Sally has reignited her interest in stitching by collaborating with her sister Fiona to transform travel photos into unique, cross-stitched works.

What a wonderful way to remember and celebrate the beautiful city of Paris. You’ll see snapshots that inspired the cross stitch designs. Not just confined to pictures to frame, the designs include totes, purses, pouches and a lovely badge too. The designs are easily adapted to projects of your choice. There are charts and colour keys to work the designs on Aida or as counted thread, or the designs can be used by embroiderers in a more freehand way without a grid.
